Pet Friendly Travel in Your New Nissan
PET-FRIENDLY TRAVEL IN YOUR NEW NISSAN
March 23, 2022
Pet adoptions have soared in recent years. With these new additions to our families, it has also increased the demand for pet-friendly travel options. Whether you’re traveling with your dog, cat, bird, or reptile, here are some helpful hints to make your future adventures fun, safe, easy, and BETTER!

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
Not all pets are made equally. The car is either an exciting place or a stressful place for animals. The best way to get them adventure ready is to set them up for success. This involves taking your pet on regular, short duration trips in the car. To start, your destination could be as simple as the corner market down the street. Once at your destination, let your pet out to sniff around and maybe give them a treat or two. After each trip, increase the duration so that, when it’s time to get on the road for your big trip, your pet will be adventure-ready!
*You may not realize it, but often a pet’s only car ride may consist of vet trips and trips to the groomer. Aim to make it more fun!

TRAVEL SAFETY
There are many ways to ensure a positive and safe trip for your pet. Keeping your pet safe correlates to keeping your eyes on the road. If you have a pacing, over anxious pet, that can be distracting for the driver. Although kennels take up a fair amount of space, sometimes that can be more calming for your pet, ensuring minimal distractions. Another alternative could be getting seat belts for pets. By putting on a harness, you can keep your pet in a seated position while still being able to look out the windows and be a part of the trip. A third alternative could be as simple as setting up a fabric divider. This will make sure no pets end up in your lap on your drive to your adventure destination.

YOUR DESTINATION
Choosing a destination could be tricky. The obvious would be picking somewhere with pet-friendly amenities, but there are other things to keep in mind too! When making your destination decisions, don't forget to think about where your pet will be while the rest of you are off shopping or dining, where pets usually aren’t welcome. Most hotels don’t want your pet left in the room unattended, so make sure you are traveling to places with cooler temperatures and that potentially even offer day camps for dogs.

PACKING
The easiest way to ensure you will have everything your pet will need is to pack a dog go-bag. These items should include plenty of food, a dish to eat out of, an extra leash, poo bags, water dishes, a tie-out, a few toys, and a couple activities to keep your pet busy. These activities can include chews, stuffed Kongs, and snuffle pads. Not only will these physically let some steam off for you pet, but it mentally stimulates them, which will help them relax in the quieter times.

GO ROGUE
Our Nissan Rogue is our most pet-friendly vehicle. The Rogue features nearly 90-degree rear door opening for our larger pet friends, kennels, and crates. This vehicle also features trizone climate control, plenty of storage space, optional pull-up window shades and even our Nissan Concierge.
